New Tights.

Feeling bored about my tights collection, so I broke out a new pair today, and even though they were gorgeous, the quality was really bad. Unlike others, the pattern wasn't printed into the tights, but actually on top of it. Sooo, when you stretch them (which is inevitable) the pattern cracks. Grrr.

I do love them though, I just wish that they were better made. =(

A Mini Study Break

Outfits from the past two days, the second set of which reminded me why I don't sit down for pictures. Dirty steps + black outfits = White patches everywhere. Eww. The remixed skirt was a very very ill fitting dress I got from camberwell a long while ago. After months of procrastinating, and waiting for a cheap Singer to appear on ebay, I finally just said s(cr)ew it, chopped off the top portion and hand stitched an elastic band around the top.

Not Another Teen Movie Involving Stepping Up and Stomping the Yard

Everyone's got a comfort outfit they always resort to when it's a Sunday and the weather is warm and you just couldn't be arsed thinking stylishly and dressing up nice. A lot of people favour jeans and a tee, or a tank top and a denim mini. This is mine:

Lazy sunday
Tank top: F.O.S, Pants: Just Jeans, Cap: Topshop, Shoes: Dunlop Volleys

I call this my 'grungy backpackers' look (the headgear is optional in most cases). It's far from glamorous or neat, but it's really comfortable and those pants bring back travel memories from countries once visited. Hence the label. Today I was informed about how much I look like a dancer reject from the teen dance movie, Step Up 2. On the one hand, that movie was a terrible, pathetic waste of celluloid film, but on the other, the dance moves were pretty damn fly. So I'm not really sure if I should feel insulted or not.

Note to Self

Never ever forget to check the weather before leaving the house.

Not only was it not as warm as I thought it would be, (since we had a top of 30 (or 86 for you Americans) degrees the day before), it was actually cool enough that I could have worn tights. Not that I'm complaining of course, hot weather is always bad in my books. Basically this is just a rationalization of my outfit. I almost threw on a huge wide brim hat, but thankfully sanity prevailed, since there was almost no sunlight out at all.

Also, if this entry seems at all disjointed, it's because I'm writing it while listening to my online lectures. MUST CATCH UP WITH UNI WORK!

Much sympathies and love

I may no longer be a uni student, but the memories of the late night cramming, or in my case all-nighters writing sessions, is one that is not easily forgotten. The sticky taste of the caffeine boost from countless Diet Cokes downed, the frenzied energy in the air, the kaleidoscope of notes spread all over the floor.. my sympathies go out to any students currently undergoing any kind of examination. Chaz and anyone else, hang in there.. it'll be over soon enough.

In the meanwhile, I'll try not to rub it in your faces how I spend this Saturday night at a late night movie marathon session. Or how I'm making the trek out to the city tomorrow, since well, I have the time. I'll be hanging out with friends who have no studying obligations either, so that means we're free to stay out however late we want. No, I wouldn't. Cause that would be mean. Right? :P

Shake it

Everything is thrifted but the tank top (hand me down) and the shoes (Andrea Biani).

Student Life.

As the Exam Season looms, the Student becomes more elusive, choosing to hibernate in the safety of their homes, only venturing out for food and shopping...

Anyways, in the next month or so, posts from me are going to be scarcer, as I'll be desperately trying to catch up with my studies, hopefully in time for the exam. More time will be spent at home in my comfy pjs, which means less outfit pictures from me. Anyways, I'll be counting on Kaz to pick up some of the slack during this time *ahem*, and I'll resume proper posts if I survive.

Same Same But Different.

A variation on yesterday's outfit because I'm kind of lazy, running slightly low on sleep, and this shirt is all kinds of snuggly. =) Plus, I can re-lengthen the sleeves when it gets too cold, meaning I won't have to carry a jacket around.

While you were sleeping...

Much apologies to Chaz, for leaving her with the updating duties for this long. I've always maintained that she is the better dresser among us two, and after going through previous entries on this site, I am simply left to marvel over her sartorial choices. Kudos, Chaz. No, this is not a love letter to you. Keep it in your pants, thankyouverymuch. (Also, if you were wondering, I am the cruder and more uncouth one of us two. Surprise much?)

So, where have I been exactly? I went off to Turkey for a family vacation and since returning, I've been interning at a local media company. There is no dress code at work, and I have to admit that that actually leaves me feeling rather stumped. Since I started working at 15, every job I've ever had had some sort of dress code, be it black t-shirt and jeans to an actual full uniform set. So I'm rather unsure of what to wear every morning and face the 'Is this skirt too short for work?' conundrum almost every day. It's a work in progress and in time I'll solve the dressing issues, but for now I leave you with this image of me in front of the most beautiful door I saw in Istanbul, Turkey and a really good link to an interview with Adrien Brody done by PrestigeHK magazine, found at ONTD. To pardon the obnoxious 'Net-speak and vulgarity, Adrien Brody is simply teh sex.

Black Dress

I spend so much time of ebay that at times, I even forget when I bought something. The bad thing about that is that I have a tendency to overspend, seeing as how I don't remember spending that money in the first place, but the good part is when an unexpected package arrives.

This dress was one of the 'forgottens'. I can't believe that I ever forgot I bought it. I'm currently insanely in-puppy-love with this dress. I like all the little details in it, such as the high collar, the mesh sleeves, and the pleated skirt. Even though it isn't clear in the pictures, the skirt is wonderfully full and pleated. I spent an embarrassing amount of time, twirling round and round this morning, watching the skirt rise and fall.

Must... get... MOAR!!!

Sunday Shopping.

Here's the thing I like about Melbourne, it can be blazingly hot one day, and 24h later, it'll just hop right back into being winter. Which I like, as it gives my tights the chance to have one last hurrah before being kept away for the next few months.

The Samster and I spent the afternoon at Brunswick street because there were a couple of sales happening that I wanted to check out. Didn't get much, but I did splurge and bought myself a 'birthday dress', even though as of now I'm not planning to celebrate it. All I need now are some shoes, and I'll have the best birthday outfit I'm never going to wear ready.

The weather today was too hot even for me to wear tights in. It's one of those where you just want to stay at home (at least I want to stay at home, the crowd on the street seems to disagree), but since a girl's got to eat, I dug deep into my closet and pulled out yet something I stole from my mom.

Usually, I'm not a big fan of tube tops, as I find myself constantly tugging the darn thing up, but the light silk skirt (whose print I just adore) was just the solution for the weather. The only problem was the presence of several high slits, so for my modesty's sake and for strangers' sanity, I wore a pair of bike/exercise tights thingy underneath. Thankfully I did, since we had a nice strong breeze going today.

A Vintage Connection

This time when I flew back home, I raided my mom's closet and stole a couple of items. She has all these amazing things that she no longer wears, which might be bad for her, but definitely good for me. I'm already planning to sneak a peek at her vintage bags the next time I'm back in town, and maybe add a few to my own collection. But keep it a secret!

I'm Back!

I'm so sorry to have abandoned everyone the past week or so. It seemed like a lifetime since I last posted. Not to bore you with the details, but I've just been dealing with some personal issues. It's been hard just getting out of bed, let alone getting dressed. But, I've made the conscious decision to just get back on it, put on some real clothes, and stop hiding at home.

So here we go.

Despite where I grew up, I was never a big fan of summer dressing and the weather, which means I will continue to dress in tights and layers for as long as possible. FIGHT THE POWER! Hee. The good news for me, is that this summer holiday, I'll be flying over to the other side of the world, specifically the east coast of USA, for a couple of months. Yay winter! More details of the trip when I actually stop procrastinating and start planning it.

Singapore Day.

On Saturday, I took a break from writing my essays to go for Singapore Day, an event sponsored by our government, for all the Singaporean students in Australia (well, mostly Melbourne since it was held here, but I heard some people flew in for the occasion). It was basically a huge free event, filled with goodie bags, entertainment and hawker food. The latter of which would have been great if they had not insisted on putting meat into everything, even dahl. Seriously. Why must they hate me?

Also, Kaz will be away for a couple of days, so it's up to me to keep everything together for a while.

Writing, Writing, Writing.

Threw this on to grab a bite with the Samster. It was a great day, which doubly bites for me since I am stuck at home with a stack of research papers, finishing up an essay.

Everything was thrifted
